Description
Razo 20 mg contains rabeprazole 20 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is a prescription medicine and should be used only for the condition, dose and duration recommended by a qualified healthcare professional.
What is Razo 20 mg?
Rabeprazole works on the acid-producing pumps in the stomach lining. By suppressing gastric acid secretion, it can help relieve acid-related symptoms and allow irritated tissue in the oesophagus, stomach or duodenum to heal. Razo 20 mg is not an instant antacid and should not be used as a substitute for urgent assessment of unexplained or severe symptoms.
Conditions for which rabeprazole may be prescribed
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including frequent heartburn and acid regurgitation
- Erosive or ulcerative damage to the oesophagus associated with acid reflux
- Duodenal or other acid-related peptic ulcers
- Conditions that cause excessive stomach-acid production, such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome
- As one component of a clinician-prescribed combination regimen for Helicobacter pylori infection
The appropriate indication and treatment period depend on the diagnosis. Persistent heartburn, painful swallowing, vomiting, unintentional weight loss, black stools or blood in vomit require prompt medical evaluation.
How to take Razo 20 mg
- Take it exactly as prescribed and follow the timing instructions supplied by your clinician.
- Swallow a delayed-release tablet whole. Do not crush, chew or split it unless the product label specifically permits this.
- Do not increase the dose or continue treatment longer than advised.
- If a dose is missed, follow the patient leaflet or ask a pharmacist. Do not take two doses together unless specifically instructed.
Possible side effects
Reported side effects can include headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, constipation or gas. Seek urgent medical help for signs of a serious allergic reaction, severe or persistent diarrhoea, reduced urination, unusual muscle cramps, seizures, a new rash with joint pain, or any other severe reaction.
Important precautions and interactions
Before treatment, tell the prescriber about kidney or liver problems, osteoporosis or fracture risk, low magnesium or vitamin B12, autoimmune conditions, pregnancy, breastfeeding and all medicines or supplements being used. Acid suppression can change the absorption or effect of certain medicines. Particular review may be needed with some HIV medicines, high-dose methotrexate, warfarin, digoxin, iron products and medicines whose absorption depends on stomach acidity.
Long-term PPI treatment should be reviewed periodically. Clinicians may consider monitoring magnesium, vitamin B12, bone health or other factors when treatment is prolonged or risk factors are present.
Storage and product checks
- Keep the tablets in their original packaging and follow the temperature and moisture instructions printed on the pack.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Check the strength, manufacturer, batch number and expiry date before use.
- Do not use tablets from damaged packaging or after the stated expiry date.
